Author, illustrator and political cartoonist who was best known for his books The Last Polar Bears (1993), which was made into a 30-minute cartoon, and The Last Castaways (2003), which won the Nestlé Smarties Book Prize.

On January 10, 2007, Horne's body was discovered holding his wife Mandy, who had been terminally ill with multiple sclerosis, in their home in West Burra. At the time of his death it was reported that the couple had entered into a suicide pact and he had assisted Mandy with her suicide before taking his own life with painkillers. However, it was revealed in July 2008 that Horne had stabbed her thirty times before killing their pets and stabbing himself until he too bled to death.
