After the end of World War Two he applied to become a citizen of the United States; however his application was turned down as he refused to say that he would take up arms to defend America. He became famous for his experiments with drugs, such as LSD.
In 1955 his first wife died and the following year he remarried. Huxley died on the same day as President Kennedy and the author C.S. Lewis. He was cremated in California and his ashes were returned to England and buried in the grave of his parents.
