African-American writer. He was born in Oklahoma City and started to study music, but was forced to give up due to financial problems. He moved to New York where he had various articles published in Magazines. In 1946 he married, and his wife supported them financially while he wrote Invisible Man
This seminal novel addresses a black man’s search for his place in society while exploring subjects such as racism and black sexuality. The unnamed narrator of the book is ‘invisible’ in the sense that other people refuse to see him.
