Spanish Poet. Awarded the 1956 Nobel Prize in Literature for his lyrical poetry, which in Spanish language constitutes an example of high spirit and artistical purity. 

He was born in Andalusia, a region he made famous with his poem, Platero y Yo, about a writer and his donkey. 
He opposed the regime of Francisco Franco and went into exile in Puerto Rico in 1939, where he lived until his death.
