Italian philosopher, scholar, notary, and statesman.  Between 1262 and 1266 he wrote a prose encyclopaedia in French, Li Livres dou Trésor, and an abridged version in Italian verse called the Tesoretto.  Following the death of the father of Dante Alighieri, Latini became Dante’s guardian.
