American journalist and writer who is best known for her semi-autobiographical novel Daughter of Earth (1929) as well as for her sympathetic chronicling of the Communist forces in the Chinese Civil War. 
The novel Daughter of Earth chronicles the years of Marie Rogers’s tumultuous childhood, struggles in relationships with men (both physical and emotional), time working with the Socialist Party, and involvement in the Indian independence movement.
