English novelist who is best remembered as the author of the Poldark series of historical novels.
The first Poldark novel, Ross Poldark, was published in 1945 and was followed by a further eleven in the series. In addition to the Poldark series he also wrote thirty other novels including Marnie, which was filmed in 1964 by Alfred Hitchcock staring Sean Connery and Tippi Hedren.
