English author who is remembered for his novels about nature; most famously Tarka the Otter. He was born in southeast London and enlisted in the army at the outbreak of World War One. Williamson wrote about his experiences during the war in several of his books, including The Patriot's Progress. After the war he was inspired to write seriously after he read The Story of my Heart by Richard Jefferies. His personal reputation has suffered as he was a member of the British Union of Fascists led by Oswald Mosley.
