English writer who is best remembered for The Pilgrim’s Progress. He entered the Baptist church where he became a preacher. He started writing by producing pamphlets attacking the beliefs of the Quakers. In 1658 he was caught preaching without a license, he continued to preach and in 1660 he was imprisoned for almost twelve years.  The Pilgrims Progress was written whilst Bunyan was imprisoned. It is one of the best known allegories ever produced and it has been translated into many languages, second only to the Bible.
