Russian poet and co-founder of the Acmeist movement who was married to the poet Anna Akhmatova. He was arrested and executed by the Cheka, the secret Soviet police force, in 1921 on allegation of participation in a monarchist conspiracy. The case was officially declared as "completely fabricated" and all victims rehabilitated by Russian authorities in 1992. Approximately 4,500 Soviet citizens were massacred and buried in Kovalevsky Forest during the first half of the twentieth century as part of the Red Terror.
