English romantic novelist and poet whose novels are set in the Shropshire countryside. She suffered from ill health throughout her life after developing symptoms of Graves' disease at the age of twenty. The 1932 novel Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons was written as a parody of Webb's work.
