Olga Bergholz (О́льга Бергго́льц) (1910-1975)

Russian poet, she had her first poetry published in the 1920’s but she is best remembered for her war poetry. 
She was for a time married to the poet Boris Kornilov who was killed during the Stalin purges. 
In 1937 Bergholz was arrested under the Stalinist regime and she spent two years in prison, where she was a victim of brutal beatings. She managed to survive the German siege of Leningrad but her second husband died of hunger in 1942.
