Canadian poet and novelist. Her book, By Grand Central Station I Sat Down and Wept, detailed her relationship with the already married poet George Barker. The book was originally published in London in 1945, but her family managed to have the book banned from entering Canada due to the subject matter. The book continued to gain a cult following in London and New York, which led to Smart receiving much critical acclaim for her work.
Her epitaph, Non Omnis Moriar, translates as Not all of me shall die.
