Raffi (Րաֆֆի) (1835-1888)

Armenian author who was born Hakob Melik Hakobian (Յակոբ Մելիք-Յակոբեան), but is better known by his pen name Raffi (Րաֆֆի).  He was a prolific writer, his most popular work, Khentâ / The Fool, was published in serial form in 1880. In his novels, Raffi depicted characters that were national heroes and Armenian revolutionaries. Generations of Armenians learned to read Armenian and became acquainted with their history through Raffi’s works.
