Roman African, early Christian theologian and philosopher from Numidia whose writings influenced the development of Western Christianity and Western philosophy. He was the bishop of Hippo Regius in North Africa (present day Annaba) and is viewed as one of the most important Church Fathers in Western Christianity. Among his most important works are The City of God, De doctrina Christiana, and Confessions.
Église Saint-Augustin d'Annaba
In 1842, a portion of Augustine's right arm  was returned from Pavia to Annaba.  It now rests in the Saint Augustin Basilica within a glass tube inserted into the arm of a life-size marble statue of the saint.
