Arthur and Sylvia Llewelyn Davies

Plot: Churchyard extension (J2) Photo taken by : DeadGoodBooks Arthur and Sylvia Llewelyn Davies are best remembered for being the parents of the boys who served as the inspiration for Peter Pan and the other children of J.M. Barrie 's stories of Neverland . Arthur met Sylvia du Maurier at a dinner party in 1889 and they became engaged shortly after. Sylvia was the daughter of George du Maurier , sister of actor Gerald du Maurier, and the aunt of novelists Angela and Daphne du Maurier . The couple married in 1892, and they had five children, all boys: George (1893–1915), Jack (1894–1959), Peter (1897–1960), Michael (1900–1921), and Nicholas (1903–1980). Johanna Spyri (1827-1901)

She was born Johanna Louise Heusser in rural Switzerland. She married Bernhard Spyri, a lawyer, in 1852 and while living in Zürich she started to write about life in the country. The story of Heid i was an instant success and although she had written other books and continued to write until her death the enduring popularity of Heidi overshadows her other work. It is the story of an orphan who lives with her grandfather in the Alps and is famous for its portrayal of how children cope with the basic issues of life such as sickness and poverty. Johanna’s husband and only son both died in 1884 and she devoted the rest of her life to charitable causes and writing. She is an icon in Switzerland, and her portrait has appeared on both stamps and coins.

William Ernest Henley (1849-1903)

While incarcerated on Robben Island prison, Nelson Mandela recited the poem Invictus to other prisoners and was empowered by its message of self-mastery. The Finnish writer Hella Wuolijoki wrote in her memoirs that the poem also inspired and encouraged her during her incarceration in prison in Helsinki at the end of World War II. From the age of 12 Henley suffered from tuberculosis of the bone which resulted in the amputation of his left leg below the knee during 1868–69.
