English novelist, poet, theologian, and literary critic who was a member of ‘The Inklings’ a literary group hosted by C.S. Lewis, that also had J.R.R. Tolkien as a member. His best known novels are War in Heaven and Descent into Hell. He was employed by Oxford University Press from 1908 until his death.
